Check out Miss Universe Ireland's amazing national costume

Very Xena: Warrior Princess.

READY YOUR FAKE tan and industrial cans of hair spray – this year’s Miss Universe competition is currently taking place in Miami, Florida.

Representing us at the pageant is 22-year-old Lisa Madden, a dentistry student from Cork.

Earlier today the contestants competed in the national costume round, which sees each model don an outfit that best represents their country.

Here’s Miss Canada, Chanel Becklenlehner, adorned with hockey sticks and what appears to be a fully working scoreboard:

And Miss Great Britain, Grace Levy, dressed as a member of the Queen’s Guard:

Staying away from traditional Irish themes (and the colour green, for the most part), Miss Ireland came out looking like a tricked-out Xena: Warrior Princess.

Amazing.

The intricate, Celtic Warrior-inspired costume was made by Dublin-based couture designer Claire Garvey, who has also designed stage outfits for Nile Rodgers and the members of Chic. See more of Garvey’s work on her Facebook page.

The winner of the pageant will be announced this Sunday. Lisa, we’ve everything crossed.
